Chinese Art

S1 & S2 art has got off to a great start with a focus on Chinese art. This is to link in with what they are studying in social subjects. Here are some photos of S2 working, some of the things they have drawn and what they have to say about it.

I love art - it is funky. Chinese art is different and unusual. I like my dragon!   David Kane

Art is really fun. Today I drew a pagoda and wrote my name in bamboo!   Euan MacDougall

This is my 3rd day ever being here and I really enjoy it. Classes are fun and exciting!   Robbie Morrison

School is really good. I like it, its fun. I like art!   Leo Reilly

River of Death!

S1 pupils have been crossing the River of Death in the attic... the only safe way to cross is using the stepping stones. In order to move across the stones, pupils must use key wprds from the lesson in a coherent sentence!

Here are our gepgraphy key words for the week: China, Pakistan, rice, dynasty, travel, Mandarin

Here are our history key words for the week: Medina, Mecca, Arabia, nomads, city dwellers, spices, trade route, Red Sea, tribes, oasis.

Here is Nathan setting out across the river!

He did make it safely!

S1 have been using atlases to complete maps of China...

Cedars School Time Machine!

The walls of the attic shook this afternoon as Primary 6/7 travelled back in time, meeting some rather fierce characters on the way!!

Pupils invented their own characters using the artefacts in the class as prompts- we met a Russian spy, a Jew in World War 2, a French peasant, lots of soldiers, a courtier looking for a wife for Henry VIII (!), Queen Victoria's Lady in Waiting, and even an accountant from the middle ages!

See if you can spot them in the photos...

Expressive folio work

S3 artists have started the development work for their folios which will be submitted in May 2010. Everyone is working on something very different and all have made an enthusiastic start!

Jonathan is completing a pencil study of a close up of a model ship he drew. He was trying to capture it from an unusual angle.

Lara is working on distorting the image of a cat as if it were reflected in a glass ball. This was inspired by a drawing by M. C. Escher.

Beth is creating a surrealist piece where the clouds are inside the umbrella...

S4/5 Drama

Congratulations to last year's S3/4 drama class who all achieved excellent results in their Int 1 course.

We have begun the Int 2 course with S4/5 and have been exploring the theme of Power...
We have been brainstorming, using still image and role on the wall as well as reading through some scripted drama. A great start!
