S4/5 art

Megan was using fabric paints to create a "Gaudi" mosaic effect on the inside lining of the dress she is making. She was experimenting with different colour combinations to see what looked best.

Massimo and Rebecca were working on their Peter Howson and Edgar Degas projects.

Gabriella's casino inspired outfit is nearly finished! She sewed on feathers to the back of the bodice today and has brought in a matching skirt which she can modify to go with her theme.

She is going to add money and casino chips to the skirt as well as other embellishments...

S3 Rehearsals

For their externally assessed production piece, S3 dramatists have written a play called "The Whole Town is Sleeping". It is quite an exciting drama, full of unexpected twists...

The play will be performed in March in one of the halls in the new extension at the church on West Stewart Street.

Lines must be completely learned by after the February break!

S1 homework project

S1 started working on an art research project today. The project is for homework and can be about any artist. It must include information and opinions about their life, career and works of art.

Projects are due in on Thursday 25th March.

S4/5 Drama Skills NAB

S4/5 were performing their end of unit assessment for unit 1 of the Int 2 drama course today. Our audience was P6/7, S3, S4/5 and some staff members.

It was quite a complex drama with LFX, SFX, costume and set changes and a lot of lines to learn, but the group had worked everything out and were well rehearsed. They all did fantastically and the whole thing went without a hitch! Well done to all - you have all passed the practical part of the unit!

Megan's dress

Megan has been working on a Spanish theme for her design project - looking at traditional Spanish dresses and the work of Antoni Gaudi. This is version number 1...

It was quite complex to make and she has worked really hard on it. It looks super but unfortunately she sewed over the zip so it was fairly amusing trying to get it on and off!

Just for laughs!

This is not really an educational post... I just thought it was very funny!

Jonathan found the eyes on my desk and they served as a light hearted distraction to the art critical study work he was becoming frustrated with!

S4/5 performance

S4/5 dramatists are performing their devised piece of drama based on "The Terrible Fate of Humpty Dumpty" tomorrow at 2:20 pm. This is part of the the unit assessment for unit 1 of their Int 2 course.

Preparations are all complete except for the secret finale dance which Deborah was teaching the others today....

Under the sea!

Lara has completed her final piece for her Int 2 design unit - well done, it looks great!

This is the face mask part for Beth's "Beast" head piece. The texture is created by mixing paint, glue and cut fur... fairly fearsome!

S3 Production progress!

We had the first production meeting for "The Whole Town is Sleeping" play in drama today. We went through all the requirements for the final unit. Each pupil has to choose a specific theatre production area to focus on and and it is on this area that they will be externally assessed by the examiner during their performance exam in March.

Lara is working on costume, Beth is working on the set and Chloe and Zander are looking at acting.

After that the pupils began to research their chosen area by gathering useful images and footage from the internet.

S4/5 art

Gabriella was working on the bodice piece for her casino inspired outfit today and is well on the way to finishing it. She has worked hard on it and it looks very effective! I particularly like the 3D foam dice and the stenciled felt playing cards she has used to decorate it

The rest of the class were working on their critical studies project, looking at Peter Howson and Edgar Degas.

S4/5 artists

Here are some more photos of what S4/5 have been doing in art this week:

Massimo is using spray dye to stencil his chinese pattern onto a T-shirt:

Gabriella is using a stanley knife to cut out a playing card stencil for the dress she is working on:

Hannah has been continuing with her expressive drawing work. She has recently finished this colourful oil pastel drawing of some cocktails:

S3 final designs

S3 are all well on the way to completing their final design pieces. Lara has finished the first stage of her "Under the Sea" headpiece and just needs to add a central focal point using shells:

Beth has also finished the first stage of her "Beast" mask. She needs to create a face mask to attach under the hair line and add ears and horns. I think it will be fairly fearsome...

Ongoing artwork in S4/5

Today we started off the class with some critical evaluation of the work of Peter Howson. After that everyone continued working on their design projects. Here are some of the things they were doing:

Rebecca and Megan were using Fantasy Film and wire to create translucent shapes for embellishing their work:

Megan tried out a new kind of spray dying technique for clothes in order to get a deeper colour of purple in her dress:

Gabriella sewed some netted ruffles as an overskirt on her design:

S2 still life

Like S1 yesterday, S2 were working on their observational drawing skills today. Here they all are hard at work... some of them are camera shy though!

Butterfly options...

Rebecca has been experimenting with an organza butterfly pattern on the waistcoat she is designing. She cut out a simplified butterfly shape from different colours of organza, layered them together and stitched them with metallic thread.

Which way of positioning them do you prefer?

The Whole Town is Sleeping...

For their final unit and examination performance, S3 dramatists have devised a short play based around the short story they have been studying in English. The play is full of suspense and has some unexpected twists...

The class have decided to set it in the 1920s so we spent some time today looking for period costumes, props and set.

S1 still life

S1 were working on their observational drawing skills today, looking at proportion, scale and composition. This is the still life they had to draw. Although they only got as far as completing a sketched outline today, I was pleased with the results! Below you can see the work of Daria, Nicol and Conor:
