A group effort!

The fireplace for the S3 drama production is progressing well. In the photos below you can see Lara adding the finishing touches to the structure whilst Zander and Chloe paint it. A big thanks is due to Iain Parker who worked hard to help construct it during some of his snowed out class time.

Snowy Glenshee Day 2!!

We awoke to a White White world this morning- fresh blankets of snow covering everything, and more falling from laden skies... Good news for the slopes! Once we'd breakfasted, (did we mention that the chef here used to cook for the Queen Mother??!) and the snow ploughs had cleared the road, we took off in our groups for the morning. The experience was quite different from yesterday- more challenging as the wind and falling snow meant more excitement! After a quick packed lunch we hit the slopes again- and despite good night's sleep last night the children ( and teachers!) are ready fir showers and hot chocolate! This evening we are playing games in the sports barn, hoping to stop our muscles stiffening!

It's been an incredible day - we are so lucky to live so close to such a stunning place!!

Fire!

Well, sort of...

S3 dramatists were constructing a fireplace for their upcoming production "The Whole Town is Sleeping". In good Blue Peter style they used old cardboard boxes, paper and tape... you may not be able to recognise it yet... but it will be fab when its finished!

Chloe was working on the SFX track for the eerie scene set in a dark ravine...

Hard at work in Art & Design!

We had a varied day in the art and design room today...

In S3 Beth completed her "Beast" mask for a theatrical production of "Beauty and the Beast" - I think you'll agree it is definitely very dramatic!

Well done Beth, a super final design!

Lamorna finished a lovely oil pastel composition of a robin on a fence:

In S4 Massimo was working on a simplified Chinese dragon's claw pattern for his design unit:

Here is Zander reading in character as the PC and Chloe in a flapper style dress:

They also have to arrange the set which can mean some furniture shifting...

Jelly Babies!

Today in art S2 were looking at the work of Keith Haring. His work focuses on colour, shape and line and is bold and bright. Many of the figures he draws are greatly simplified and look rather like jelly babies!

Making progress...

Megan's Spanish dress is progressing well. Here is the initial design she was working from:

The red sections and sleeves are inspired by a bull fighters cape and the diagonal slant of the dress is traditionally Spanish. The next step is to add some Gaudi mosaic patterns.

Fandabbydozi Fridays!!

This term, S1 are using their double Social Studies lessons on Friday afternoons to be creative! We are using the things we learn about during the week to create paintings, raps, songs, and dramas!

The class are making brilliant progress, and they chose the name 'Fandabbydozi Fridays' to reflect their enjoyment of the learning activities they take part in, and the fact that they love being able to choose the activity! These activities reinforce their understanding of the learning objectives covered each week, and are particulalry useful in developing group work skills, especially comunication skills.

Today the class are painting rats- for our frieze of Edinburgh in the 17th Century. The pupils have been learning how rats and fleas caused the plague...

Last week, the class created their own dramas, with the help of Megan and Bec from S4, showing the different people involved in fighting the plague...
