Jelly Babies!

Today in art S2 were looking at the work of Keith Haring. His work focuses on colour, shape and line and is bold and bright. Many of the figures he draws are greatly simplified and look rather like jelly babies!

Making progress...

Megan's Spanish dress is progressing well. Here is the initial design she was working from:

The red sections and sleeves are inspired by a bull fighters cape and the diagonal slant of the dress is traditionally Spanish. The next step is to add some Gaudi mosaic patterns.

Fandabbydozi Fridays!!

This term, S1 are using their double Social Studies lessons on Friday afternoons to be creative! We are using the things we learn about during the week to create paintings, raps, songs, and dramas!

The class are making brilliant progress, and they chose the name 'Fandabbydozi Fridays' to reflect their enjoyment of the learning activities they take part in, and the fact that they love being able to choose the activity! These activities reinforce their understanding of the learning objectives covered each week, and are particulalry useful in developing group work skills, especially comunication skills.

Today the class are painting rats- for our frieze of Edinburgh in the 17th Century. The pupils have been learning how rats and fleas caused the plague...

Last week, the class created their own dramas, with the help of Megan and Bec from S4, showing the different people involved in fighting the plague...

Megan's dress... again!

Megan is working hard and her dress and it is progressing well. So are her skills on the sewing machine!

Gabriella's final design!

Gabriella has been working hard on her final design piece and it has all paid off - she has used a wide range of materials (including foam dice, poker chips feathers and monopoly money fabric) to create this eye-catching outfit! Well done!

S2 Homework

I told S2 that I was going to set them some art homework but I let them choose, as a class, the nature of the homework.

They decided to have a weekly sketchbook task which they would work on for about 50 minutes a week. They will be given a task / subject / title each week to guide and structure their work from a comprehensive list that they brainstormed during the class discussion.

The first sketch is due on Thursday 4th and the 1st subject is "Random!" (as there were too many different ideas!).
