She distorted the wing shape into swirling tendrils and then cut the shapes out of black and red paper. She used the spaces created by the cut out shapes in the black paper as her background and put iridescent paper behind it so it would show through the holes - this was reminiscent of a dragonfly wing. She then covered the black shapes she had cut out with the iridescent paper and stuck down both these and the red cut out butterfly shapes onto her background. She stuck them down randomly and only in the centre of the shapes to give a 3D layered effect.
The next stage is to look at fabrics to see how we could develop this pattern using textiles.
